Artist Agreement

Last updated: January 2025

The Short Version

You keep 70% of what you earn. You own your music. You can leave anytime. We just ask that your music is human-made and you act in good faith.

1. What This Agreement Covers

This agreement governs your participation as an artist on Human Arts. By applying and being accepted, you agree to these terms.

2. Revenue Share

Human Arts uses a user-centric payment model. When a listener plays your music, a portion of their subscription is allocated to you based on their listening time.

  • You receive 70% of revenue attributed to your music
  • Human Arts retains 30% for platform operation and development
  • Payouts are made monthly by the 15th, for the previous month
  • Minimum payout threshold: $10 (balances roll over if not met)

3. Music Ownership

You own your music. By uploading to Human Arts, you grant us a non-exclusive license to stream your content on our platform. You can remove your music at any time, and the license terminates.

You represent that you have the rights to all music you upload, including samples, covers, and collaborations.

4. Human-Made Music Requirement

Human Arts is exclusively for human-made music. By joining, you certify that:

  • All vocals, melodies, lyrics, and compositions are created by humans
  • AI is not used to generate the core creative elements of your music
  • Standard production tools (DAWs, VSTs, sampling, mixing plugins) are fine
  • AI-assisted mixing/mastering tools are acceptable

If we discover AI-generated content, we reserve the right to remove it and, in cases of repeated violation, terminate your account.

5. Community Guidelines

As a Human Arts artist, you agree to:

  • Not artificially inflate your play counts
  • Keep your artist profile and show listings accurate
  • Respond reasonably to listener feedback and engagement
  • Not upload content that violates others' rights
  • Not upload hateful, illegal, or explicitly harmful content

6. Live Shows

Human Arts prioritizes artists who perform live. Adding your shows to your profile boosts your visibility in local discovery. We encourage (but don't require) you to:

  • Keep your show calendar up to date
  • List shows at least a week in advance when possible
  • Engage with the local community where you perform

7. Transparency

We believe in transparency. You'll have access to:

  • Detailed analytics showing listener counts and listening time
  • Community-by-community breakdown of your audience
  • Clear calculation of how your earnings are computed
  • Monthly statements showing exactly how you were paid

8. Leaving Human Arts

You can leave at any time by removing your music and deactivating your artist account. Upon departure:

  • Your music will be removed from the platform within 24 hours
  • Any outstanding balance will be paid in the next payout cycle
  • Your analytics history will be available for export for 30 days

9. Termination by Human Arts

We may terminate your account for:

  • Repeated violations of community guidelines
  • Uploading AI-generated content after warning
  • Fraudulent activity (e.g., artificial stream manipulation)
  • Uploading content that violates others' copyrights

We will always attempt to resolve issues before termination and will provide warning when possible.

10. Changes to This Agreement

We may update this agreement. We'll notify you of material changes via email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
